But first we chat to XtendBarre Founder Andrea, to find out the benefits of XtendBarre and what makes XtendBarre different from other barre classes
Tell us a bit about yourself, what inspired you to start XtendBarre?
I was a professional dancer and naturally gravitated to the Pilates method. I became certified to teach Classical Pilates because I believed in the principles. In an effort to provide cross-training and seek better results for my clients, I began to incorporate dance elements and music my Pilates sessions in order to offer challenges in coordination, rhythm, and cardiovascular fitness. By raising my clients to a standing position, and diversifying their range of motion, I found they achieved greater results by offering XtendBarre.

At Vie Active we celebrate the notion of FLAWSOME– This is being imperfectly perfect and embracing it, what makes you FLAWSOME?
The fact that I am still challenged by XtendBarre classes. People always comment how I make it look easy doing the exercises but inside my body is shaking and I definitely have to power through to finish each rep?
What are the benefits of XtendBarre?
A stronger core, a lifted derriere, improved posture, endurance, energy, increased flexibility and greater body awareness.
What are your top technique tips for someone who is new to XtendBarre?
Listen to the instructor for the correct setup and cues. They will explain hip and shoulder alignment and teach you how to effectively use your muscles and feet for each exercise. Do not feel like you need to advance every exercise, they all work from progression. This will guarantee they get the most efficient workout.
What is your favourite XtendBarre move and why?
Fold over! It is the ultimate full body exercise. I can challenge my core, balance and endurance all while sculpting my lower body.
What is the perfect post XtendBarre Snack?
Fruit... We keep a fresh bowl of fruit right outside the studio as a post workout snack. We love bananas, oranges and apples
Besides Barre is there any other way you stay fit?
I love to take Xtend Barre classes, but I also work out at home with videos from Jessica Smith.
What are your Barre Workout Essentials?
An Xtend barre water bottle and towel…and of course my grip socks.
