AMBASSADOR BEATRICE DING: A NOTE ON SELF LOVE
Posted on 10 February 2015
The realisation that I, and nobody else, am the main contribution to my sense of security thus happiness. Only if you start to appreciate what you were gifted with, and to practice loving yourself, will you be able to love others. I feel most happy after I have taught a class and people thank me for a good class. Often people come in looking distressed, but being able to see them leave with a smile on their face makes me really happy!
What do you think is the most common reason for people not loving themselves?
Something I feel is hard to discover in today’s harsh society. Self love should be a practice that is prioritized, yet is instead invalidated and superseded by making comparisons of ourselves to others. Some are consciously aware of this act, of how wrong it is, yet still do it because this is what our society has taught us to do. To some, comparing and judging oneself is an unconscious act that has simply become habit. Once this habit is formed, it is incredibly hard to knock especially because of how mass media projects this image of what everyone ought to look like. With the readily available images of celebrities splashed all over the internet or magazines, for example, we follow what we see on TV.
Have you always loved your body, how did you learn to love your body?
Only in the last few years have I truly come to appreciate what I was born with; The shift came when I stopped focusing on having a skinny body, but instead a strong body. My personal journey of Self Love has come not only with age, but hand in hand with my journey of becoming a fitness instructor and first time business owner. Getting through my instructor training while simultaneously opening the business, has allowed me to realize what I am capable of mentally, physically, and spiritually.
When you're having a bad day, or feeling like you’re missing your glow - how do you get back on track?
Of course there are days when I wake up feeling gross, mainly days after I have decided to have a big supper or too many chips and beer. But Self Love is also about having a balance and not being so rigid on yourself. It is perfectly acceptable to let loose sometimes! Have wine, but have green juice as well. Have chips, but have vegetables as well! To make sure my body is getting what it needs to get back on track the next day, I’ll work out and eat super clean to flush it out.
Do you have a favourite thing you do to pamper yourself?
Twice a week I scrub my face and body with an antioxidant, anti cellulite homemade scrub: Coffee grounds, sea salt and coconut oil. Makes my skin smell amazing and soft.
What's your favourite thing about your body?
Never would I have thought I could teach a class, nor teach 9 classes a week! I have become so much stronger in all those aspects and because of this I make wiser choices that contribute to my everyday happiness
