How to get a Barre Body
Posted on 20 August 2014
Lean, Long, Toned and Taut, the benefits of a Barre Body definitely sound amazing, which is why we have seen so many fit chicks, models and celebrity flock to get a bit of Barre. Barre workouts fuse ballet barre conditioning, yoga and Pilates to fully condition your body.
The Ballet & Pilates exercises at the barre and on the mat tone your muscles, while complementary yoga postures lengthen and shape your muscles (think long & lean like a ballet dancer!)
The interval training format (raising and lowering the heart rate) means that you get fast results, fat burning is increased and your metabolism is boosted for hours after your workout. Barre Body works your entire body, giving special attention to the lesser used muscles, resulting in a total body toning effect.
We caught up with our favourite Barre Instructor Kat Lee (She teaches a seriously tough Barre Workout) to get her tips on how to get a Barre Body.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your fitness journey, why fitness?
Originally from Toronto, Canada; I have always been passionate about health and fitness. I started competitive gymnastics at a young age and began cheerleading soon after. After numerous injuries, I slowly moved into the world of yoga and pilates. I instantly fell in love with the practice and knew I wanted to teach. I began my teaching career as a pilates instructor and quickly expanded my schedule to teaching fitness classes, running clinics, spinning and yoga. I am now a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor. I hold 3 yoga certifications and am a qualified spinning and barre instructor. After moving to Sydney and discovering Barre, I knew it was something I wanted to be involved in. I joined the team at Barre Body when the first Sydney studio opened and absolutely love it. Doing something I love and am passionate about really drives my happiness. I love my clients and find such gratitude in knowing I am helping and motivating others to achieve their goals while also having fun.

Who is your biggest fitspiration?

You’re now a trainer at F45, what do you think makes F45 different?
Functional training has really taken off in the last year, especially with new F45 studios opening rapidly around Australia. F45 is a functional movement workout that lasts 45 minutes and targets the entire body. Sessions are either resistance, cardio or circuit but are all designed to burn mega calories and have you feeling amazing in just 45 minutes. Unlike other types of training, F45 can be done by anyone. The program can be customized to cater to all ages and fitness ability, people with injuries, and different fitness goals. F45 focuses on group training while creating a motivating and positive atmosphere where everyone trains as a team. The energy and attitude of the instructors is extremely important to keep members motivated and driven to get through the workout. I really love the energy it brings.
You’ve studied ‘Joga’, what is it and why do you love it?
Joga is an athletic style of yoga that incorporates a unique blend of postures to find balance in strength and flexibility; focusing on athletic performance and injury prevention. It was specifically created to compliment an athlete’s existing training program. Learning and teaching Joga has given me the opportunity to work with pro athletes, sports teams and individuals who are looking for a more power based yoga style. I love the sequencing and the challenge it brings, as well as the opportunity to better understand human movement, body types and certain limitations that some clients face.
We love Kat's classes as they are fun, upbeat and bring in her yoga, athletic and high intensity background as well!
